Well it all depends on what you use your computer for...
if you play games - Vista is recommended purely because of DirectX 10...and as long as you have 2gb of ram it will be fine for games.

If all you do is surf the net and watch movies etc...then i wouldn't bother until you get a new computer

Windows Vista: Get Ready

check if your current pc is vista ready.

Vista is the newest version of windows and I believe the longest in coming out. As when XP came about, people were used to 98 and didn't want to change because they were scared of all the rumors floating around. And intimidated by the activation process and afraid of giving Microsoft too much personal information.

It will be the same type of issues with vista. There will be wild rumors floating around about what it will be capable of doing and all that... The truth is simple...the operating system is new and there are going to be problems with the roll out and the installation and the cost. There will be issues with hardware compatability. Most of which is basically caused by people that want to keep the old hardware designed for windows 98 or ME or even XP and use it to build a brand new computer...it just doesn't work very well.

I am testing it out myself right now and like the base version without getting into to much techie stuff or trying to tweak it out. That will come a bit later.

Well I play a lot of games on my pc and watch a couple of movies here and there. I only have 1 GB of Ram. What do you guys think of Vista running on my PC? Also will installing Vista restore my PC or do I not loose anything at all? Also do you guys know when Vista is officially coming out, instead of the Betas? I just ran the Vista upgrade test, and it tolled me that the Windows Vista Home Premium is the best for my PC, is Premium any good or are there no differences? Is it easy to go back to XP if something goes wrong, or I just don't like it?

It's a no brainer where I am concerned regarding Vista, I will be staying with XP untill Vista sp1 is released.

Here are the prices for the various flavours of Vista that will be sold in Australia.

Windows Vista Home Basic AUD$385
Windows Vista Home Premium AUD$455
Windows Vista Business AUD$565
Windows Vista Ultimate AUD $751

These are the version that comes in a pretty box. I will be waiting for the Oem version that comes in a plastic bag...
