Have you tried installing with the absolute minimum inside your PC (GFX, 1 stick of RAM, CPU, hard drive - that's it) and absolutely NO peripherals connected (printer, USB etc...)?

I could do without being pointed to the obvious but I have linux setup at the moment and at this rate I dont see a reason to go to windows. what a waste of time that OS is.
Final conclusion of this problem: Windows stinks, Linux doesnt. I think Ill switch to Mac next. Ive had it up to here with Windows. Last edited by WhiskeyP; 10-11-2006 at 04:27 AM. |

What's surprises me, is that everyone says "linux is awesome" and it's "uncrackable"
but...if linux was mainstream, everyone would be saying the same about MS...it's just everyone uses MS and that's why people 'attack' it with viruses and find ways through the kernal and what not ![]() but that's besides the point... back on topic... when that storm happened, where you able to continue using your computer?

I think Im finally getting somewhere!!
A friend of mine told me she had the same problem and said its because the drivers windows is using upon installation are no good. I thought the drivers were loaded from the CD, correct? Could there be "bad" drivers currently loaded somewhere in my box? If the bad drivers arent on the harddrive where would they be? If they are somewhere on the motherboard how do I access them and change it back to normal? I know this is the problem now because I remember what I was doing exactly when this problem occured--I was updating my ATI Drivers. I was using the PC for a few days after the storm took the power out so it cant be the storm. This has to be it!

I cant rollback because windows isnt installed. I get the blank screen after it checks my hardware and sometimes I cant even get it to check my hardware.
This would explain why I can load linux--which probably has different "default" drivers on the installation CD/wherever-it-comes-from. I have used more than one windows installation and none of them work because of this. Are the default drivers located somewhere in the video card or motherboard? How do I fix this to use the standard default drivers windows needs to run installation? |
