Unhappy [Resolved] Microsoft Help and Support

Hi
I have a big problem---I have "lost" help and support.
The help and support I speak of is when you click on "start" and the programs come up, the Microsoft help and support is on the right hand side above search and run.
When I click on it, nothing happens!!!
I have searched for it in files and folders on Local disk C, and I get no results back.
If anyone can please assist me in finding this missing link, I would be grateful. My XP Home came preinstalled so I have no CD.

Hi snoopy,

Can you try a system file check?

Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow This will scan for all system files that have been deleted/corrupt since windows installed - you'll need your XP cd.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I have no CD--my Windows Home XP came preinstalled.
However, I do have a copy of XP Professional--could I use this CD ?

Hmm, unfortunatley it will ask you for the XP Home CD.

To be honest, if Help and Support doesn't work - it's no big deal..alot of the "help and support" in there is generic and rarely fixes a problem (in my experience)

Thanks --I suppose I can live without it though.
I checked in SERVICES to see if I had disabled it. I had not but when I tried to restart it, I got an error mesage 1058.
Any idea?
Thanks again

That error number references this...
Service Does Not Start and Displays "Error 1058"

See if it helps at all

Hi again
Not too sure what solved the problem but here is what I did. I followed your advise and read the website you suggested. I messed around with services---nothing resolved the issue.
I then decided to merge the registry backup to the time just before the problem started. Well what do you know---I now have Help and Support back!!!
My grateful thanks for your assistance,
Happy Thanksgiving--if you celebrate in Australia.
Regards
