To be honest i've only used it once

Follow the steps provided to make the disk, and then boot off the disk/cd whichever you chose.

Memtest is a RAM test, so there's no point in running it on your healthy computer. When you pulled your hard drive out of your unhealthy computer you may have knocked another powercable out somewhere

Ok, I'll give it a shot when I get home. See if I can find anything un-plugged too.

Thanks,
Sean

Ok, Pulled my HD and put it back in the healthy computer. Ran CHKDSK on it and it came back clean. Pulled and re-seated the video card. Checked for un-plugged or loose wires. Still nothing but a black screen. It's like there is no signal going to the monitor.

ARRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything spools up like normal, just nothing on the monitor.

Thanks
Sean

Hello manders01, I got a question.

EDIT: just read the whole thread.

Have you tried the HD from a working computer in the defunct computer?

No I did not try a healthy HD in the sick computer. Did'nt want to risk fouling up my friends computer too.

I managed to get the monitor back up. Don't ask me why I thought of it, but I reset the cmos and wooohoooo the monitor started working again. One small victory for me.

Still cannot install windows though. It gets to 57% of copying files and it cannot copy from there on out. After it reboots, it says the "NTDLR" is missing.

So, one small victory, one brick wall. Not a bad day....lol

How do I get passed this?

Thanks,
Sean

The problem is going to be 1 of 3 things.
1) CD drive
2) Hard drive
3) cable that connects cd/hard drive to computer.

Easiest thing first, is to make sure the cables are all properly connected to the computer.
Second easiest is to try another cd drive
Third...another hard drive

Unfortunatly, i believe it's going to turn out to be the hard drive but try the other steps first.

Ok, I double checked all of the cables....good to go.
The CD/DVD drive was working when the system crashed. Can't see it being that.
The HD....hmmmm. I've still got the old seagate from my OOOOLLDDDDD computer. It's 80GB. Maybe I'll see if I can re-format it and give it a go. Since this all began, I've read a ton of reviews about my particular HD and while they were all good at first, after 6 months the reviews took a turn for the worst. Many report the HD just up and quiting. I'll put in a call to Maxtor and see what they can/will do about it. Hopefully a RMA will be in the future.

Thanks again for all the help!

Sean
