Default reformatting

hi, my computer is to put it nicely, full of **** and i wish to reformat it ASAP. i have a GB of ram to put in on monday and im quite excited ive been told i should have a windows CD in order to do this but i cant seem to find one in my collection though i do have a recovery disk, would this do the same job? (is it an equivalent?) if not, would i have to get in contact with microsoft for a replacement CD or do i even need a CD?! ive never reformatted in the 5years ive had my comp (though it has had numerous upgrades) so id just love to 'start over'.
thanks in advance

Hi there, well you could borrow a Windows cd off a friend, that is if you have a legit key , here's some instructions that should help you

How to Format a Hard Drive with Windows XP - eHow.com.

Do remember to back up all your important data on to discs though.

PS: Who's the recovery disc by?.

The recovery CD will allow you to reinstall windows.

No doubt you have a Dell/HP/Compaq/Gateway...they generally keep a small part of the hard drive for an image of your system. Insert your recovery CD and it will reimage your computer (which is just the same as doing a new install.

But That guide Bugsey linked is a great guide. Also again...it is very important to make sure you backup everything you want to keep as doing this will remove everything off your system.
