Default sound card and external hard drive errors

hi,

i recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP pro but it won't acknoledge my sound card (an intel 82801DB-ICH4 AC'97).

also, my PC wont see my Maxor One Touch II external hard drive, i've tried reinstalling the drivers but it won't see it, which is a ***** as i've backed up all my files onto it before i reformatted the drive!!!

I've tried to download a sound card driver from Driverguide.com but the registration page keeps giving me the run around.

please please please help me!!!

Did you install the drivers BEFORE connecting the drive? Most USB devices require that. Double check the readme file, if any, on the driver disc to find out (if you don't have the original instructions). If I'm right, you'll want to disconnect the drive, unintall the drivers, go into device manager and remove the drive completely, reboot, reinstall the drivers, THEN connect the drive.

Hopefully that helps.

As for the sound card, what brand sold it? Check that seller's website for tech support download options. I suspect it was a pre-installed card in your current system or a prior one...not bought separately? Those can be a bear to track support down for.

Hi micky

If your computer is a Dell machine, try downloading the drivers from here

JWRosa, i'll give that a go, but i've probably not given you a correct descrition of the problem. it is showing the external drive as locked so i shall consult the manual and hopefully that'll do the trick

cheers pal
