Default chkdsk is messing up my system!

When i start my computer it runs 'chkdsk' i have been done this as it recomends i do so! but when i read what it's doing I become concerned as it is deleting files that belong in the 'system 32' folder, it deletes files like 'odbcbcp.dll etc.' and most importantley 'lsasrv.dll'.

I wouldn't mind as it is obvious that these files are corupt, but they are essential for me to use my computer and without 'lsasrv.dll' i can't get to the log on screen! Luckily for me i have 'Norton GoBack' which i have only just purchased as i did a system restore 8 days ago, with 'Norton GoBack' i can just go back to before i ran the 'dskchk'

Anyway i can't replace these essential files with the ones from my 'XP DISK' so i have registered on this site, to see if there is any friendly help anyone can offer.

I'm not too sure on this but i've heard scandisk is exactly like chkdsk , and scandisk is already on your machine here's a detailed guide.

Microsoft Scandisk Windows XP

Although it isen't on all computers =(.

No luck with 'scandisk' I may have sugercoated my problem abit also
Although the 'scandisk' had more things to do then the 'chkdsk' it still deleted key '.dll' files! After the 'scandisk' didn't work i decided to do a system restore AGAIN! but it wouldn't let me! At the present time i am preparing to 'backup' the few things i have created over the past 8 days, and downloading service packs and drivers to backup also (makes it easier to set up system again!

I have also ran 'Windows File Protection' to see if that could do anything, but all that confirmed is the fact that key files have been replaced (sounds like a virus) and that i need a service pack 2 cd?

I am reluctant to do anything other than restore my system after the 'Windows File Protection' has ran. This is due to the fact i have no 'Service Pack 2 CD' and the poor performance it's had the past few days (i should have known something was wrong)

I would be extremely gratefull if anyone could supply me with the knowledge to reinstall my system and could tell me how to do this with the original drivers inplace (a problem i have learned to live with)

Thankyou! and i intend to donate to this very hospitalitous site!

Here are instructions for a repair install of windows:

Perform a Repair Installation

But if checkdisk is deleting files then usually it means that the HD has bad sectors on it. Try this app to test your HD's health:

Download Drive Health 2.4.123 Free Trial - Drive Health helps you predict possible HDD failure and prevent losing data - Softpedia

But you'd might wanna think about replacing the drive any time soon.

Yeh i am just getting a new hard drive and reinstalling windows on that. I know for definate that my drive is mest up, something about "User Partition" which i can't create!

Anyway one final question as my current hard drive is messed up, when i get the new one, will i still be able to wipe clean my current one and store files on it!

If not it don't matter hard drives are so cheap these days!

You could use an app like this this below to give it a very thourough format and then maybe use the drive for quite some time, but it could also die next week..

That is always very difficult to say with HD's.

Darik's Boot and Nuke (Hard Drive Disk Wipe)
