Default [Fixed] What A Dummy!
I made the fatal mistake of dowloading a file from a site i was attempting to view funny videos from. It site said I needed an updated version of Windows Media Codec, or something like that, needed to view the video. Well I did and now I have 3 an annoying problems.

1. An icon in my system tray that keep bleeping and telling me I have a virus and then promptly redirects me to a site selling virus software. I would like to rid my PC of it.

2. Whenever I click on Start/Internert Explorer I am redirected to a site called theuptodatesaftey.com - I would like to get this removed

3. An IE bar named Protection Bar that I can not uncheck to clear. It also has a number of buttons that will direct me to various sites selling all kinds of virus software

In addition to the above when my system now boots it tries to install Paint Shop pro, which was uninstalled some weeks ago. How do I stop this program from trying to reinstall!

Dont worry about it, i have had exactly the same problem, with nearly all the same symptons. It was the reason i joined this forum and they sorted my problems out. Just hold tight till one of the malware guys gets chance to post and as long as you do exactly what they say you'll be fine!
Could you post the windows you are running on and run this program and post the log (dont delete anything using the program). It will help them in finding out a way to fix your problem

Thanks hengis for that link been looking for one for a while apart from youtube and google video, i thought Photocopy Babe - VidBug.com - Watch - Share - Upload - Your Movie Madness was a great video ,and swbarclay, i've had that problem too before, it's actually quite simple to fix once you post your Hijackthis log, like auron said one of the secriuty team will help you .

lol nice one Hengis. Everyone likes when watching videos of people catapult of roofs etc because we can nearly all say that we're glad it wasnt us lol!
