Thanks for the support thus far - top notch. All the Malware and annoying IE start problems have gone. Now all I have to do is clear up the Paint Shop pro install problem and then I think we are there.

Have ran the program as requested. The only issue I can across was that the program could not locate one of the files it needed. This, I presumed, was due to the fact that it was running in a temp folder, so I copied the complete folder to my C:\ drive and then ran it again - hey presto! Then followed the instructions and now the system is looking much better.

What I am left with now is this....

When I log in to via any of the accounts on the PC it keeps trying to run an install script for Paint Shop Pro. I am not sure where this is being driven from but this software was deleted some weeks ago by myself. It must be initiated by a service or startup file somewhere - can you help me sort this out please?

Have added an attachment to give you some idea of the errors I'm getting.

Regards and much respect

Stuart...

You may have a fragment of the installer left-- many uninstallers don't do the best job of cleaning up after themselves. A registry cleaner would probably help.
this one's free-- works very well on the 'default' settings.

Thanks for both the tips but the problem persists. I even went to the extreme of downloading Corel Paint Shop Pro XI and uninstalling it, but to no avail. Have run CCleaner, which cleaned up a lot of things, but did not stop the problem app trying to load. Have run msconfig and looked very closely at the apps being loaded, but still can't find where the bloody thing is being called from. Have searched my registry and located dozens of references to Paint Shop Pro but am a tad fearful of making any changes there just incase I cause more problems.

Need help to seek and destroy!

Stuart ...

Hmm its being really stubbon ,

Try downloading

Easy Uninstaller - Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com

and see if you can find it by that

or

Reinstall paintshop pro again and then try uninstalling it with easy uninstaller ( the link above)

Good luck

If all else fails... in this type of situation-- you should back up your registry...

Help and Support

and search for the previously-mentioned files -- if you can find the Corel folder & you have no other Corel programs on your PC-- just right-click and delete the whole folder at once. Then run every search you can think of... like paintshop or Corel or Pro XI as individual searches. Delete anything else you find-- check the file path first, of course. THEN run CCleaner -- delete all it finds and REBOOT.

I have had instances like this... where the ONLY way to rid yourself of a stupid, frustrating problem is to manually search the registry. It is a pain ... but it beats reinstalling windows AND all your other software.
