Default Please Help!!

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this question, but I have no idea what I'm doing. My son usually helps me out with any pc problems.

Yesterday, my PC suddenly started operating really slowly, on the internet and off. I clicked on BS player and it wouldn't open. A bubble came up saying something about error and that it was most likely due to a virus. Now, the PC won't let anyone log into their user. If you haven't been on the pc for 10 minutes, it switches to the user screen. It's always done this. There are three users on their, myself and my two sons. None have passwords and yet the PC is now asking for one. I don't have one and never have.

Before he left, my son said that the PC was almost certainly infected with a virus. He did manage to use AVG anti virus free edition this afternoon before he left. However, when I got home the program had finished running and had found 0 virus' on the PC. I am stuck in safe mode, which is where my son managed to get into the PC. I have no idea how to do that without him here, so I'm afraid to turn it off. Can't change size or get into a lot of what I need. I can't turn the PC off as it'll go to the user screen.

Anyone any ideas? If it's not a virus, what could it be? It seems like a virus is doing it, but the program I just used said I have none. I'm desperate!!!

It sure sounds alot like a virus do you know if you or another family member have downloaded anything in the past few days?, For a last resort there is always formatting , but im sure the excellent staff will soon contact you and come up with a solution which will not have to resort to that .

-Good luck

Many thanks for responding so quickly. My son usually does all this stuff for me and I'm totally lost now. It is acting like its a virus but the AVG virus scanner says there are none on my pc. I can't download any others as utorrent etc won't open anymore. Am working out of safe mode. I have a huge web design folder that I'm desperately trying not to lose. 5years worth of work.

Hi susieg, and welcome to the forums.

I'll bet, that if you just push enter (when it asks for the password) it will log in as it should...are you able to test this and post back?

Managed to get back online. This time I didn't need a password. Seems to decide for itself when and where. It is now not allowing me to open a lot of programs that I use a lot. Can't open BS Player [Says probable virus] can't use utorrent, just won't open it due to some error. Wouldn't AVG have found it if it was a virus? I going through my normal user at the moment, but whatever it is, it's spreading.
