Default Window's XP KEy issue

Window "thinks" my computer has a counterfeit OS. It wont let me do updates and reminds me frequently I may be at risk. This PC is 7 years old (CPQ Presario AMD 800) and has been repaired and upgraded many times. I have 2 "still in shrink wrap" copies of XP. Is there any way to get the key updated on the OS on my machine without reloading the OS?

thanks,
lewie

Hi,

Give this free program a try: Download RockXP 4.0 beta - Retrieve and change your XP key, save your activation file, etc - Softpedia - and let us know how you get on

Default This copy of Windows is not genuine

didn't work, Rock XP would not let me change my key. When I hit "modify" it scanned my PC and came back and said I have a valid key.

I went to MS Update and got this message.

This copy of Windows is not genuine

Default need more?

I tried again, same result. I took a screen shot if RockXP if you need it. I didn't want to post it because it has my "bad key" and my new one.

i know of a program that helps you change the key but as far as i know it only works for sp1.
there is another method described with the program that says it will work for any updates but i havent done that one cos i`m happy with sp1 :-)

[edit]I completely forgot to mention, if you like i will send you the files[/edit]

Also...
My girlfriends pc had a problem where a hidden process kept popping up telling her that her copy of windows was fake. it was just a stupid virus trying to con her into downloading stuff tho. :-)
I doubt thats got anything to do with this but i thought i`d mention it while we were on the subject.
AVG fixed it

Default thanks...

thanks for the advice. I have SP2 so i guess I'm stuck.

I don't believe this is a virus....it all started after a MS update.

Sounds like "Windows Genuine Advantage"
WHICH IS AN ADVANTAGE FOR NOBODY BUT BILL GATES' WALLET.
