Default Windows XP Home Edition: Boot Problem

I'm unable to start/boot my IBM PC. I receive the following error message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.

Suggestions to resolve the problem?

hello phils and welcome to pchf

if you have your windows xp cd you can boot from the cd and perform a repair install it won't delete any programs that you allready have on your pc
