Question Cant install XP on new pc

Ok, i have just built a new pc and have all the hardware connected to the mobo and everything. ive got 1g of ram, a cd-rom drive, a 300g hd, a amd sempron processor, gigabyte mobo, heatsink, 2 led fans, and a 256mb agp graphics card.
neways, when i turn on my pc, i insert the windows xp disk, the fans run, the lights turn on, and my monitor bring up a screen w/ all my pc's info on it (when i hit delete, it succesfully runs the BIOS) and then i hear my disk drive spin and at the bottom of the screen it says "Boot Disk Error. Please Insert System Disk And Press Enter". i have tried switching my disk drive back from slave to master and tried all of the ide slots. i have no idea what is wrong w/ it and i am extremely frustrated. any advice would be appreciated ^_^

Hello Hugebacon, and welcome to the PCHF.

Have you set your BIOS to boot off your CD drive first?

Also if you have a floppy drive connected, i would recommend disconnecting it, sometimes bios dont listen and try the floppy anyway

Yes, actually, when i went into the BIOS the first time, it was set to read off of the floppy drive first, so i changed it to read from the cd-rom drive. But that didnt seem to do anything.
I have also been told that i may need to use a bootdisk floppy in order for my cdrom drive to run the windows xp disk, but one of my friends just recently completed his pc and successfully installed xp by simply inserting the xp disk into the cdrom drive and booting up his pc. i dont know if this has anything to do w/ it...

Default Original OS

Do you have an official microft windows xp disk, or is it a copy?

it is actually a copy, but i have ordered the official disk and it should be in w/in a week. when i put the copied disk into my current pc that actually runs, it reads the disk fine and shows that it recognizes that it is the windows xp disk. i havvnt tried to run it on my current pc yet though for risk of damaging it.
i have also been told that i may need to partition my harddisk, but again, all my friend had to do to istall xp onto his pc was insert the disk, and our pcs have pretty much the same hardware.

unfortunatly, according to our rules (link in my sig)...we can't help you out until your copy gets to you. Once you get your legit copy, please come back and we'll give you a hand.
