I sometimes find the system idle process is really slowing down the pc. it is hogging processor usage at around the 90 plus mark. I have to restart the system to stop it.
Would be grateful if someone could check the log taken today. TNX Fellas

Hi sbowler.

The SYSTEM IDLE process is just that...it's there to tell you that 90% of the CPU is not being used by anything and is just sitting there doing nothing.

It's not a process as such, it's just an entry put there by Microsoft to tell you what it's doing.

One of the security guys will no doubt check out your HJT log, but it's nothing to be concerned over.

Of course can see that now. one of the other things which seems to use a lot of the memory is WAOL.EXE I have done a google on this and of course its part of the AOL software for my browser. can this be rempved to free up memory? or is it an essential part of AOL? There are also nasties that try and disquise themselves as the process, although have done all the scans and everythings clear.

I'm not too sure to be honest..AOL never really successfully took off here in asutralia and I haven't had to deal with their software for about 7 years.

If you use AOL then I'd say that it will be needed. If you don't use AOL then I'd say it's malware, and to complete the Prework instructions in my signiture.

Run HijackThis , select to do a "system scan only" and then place a check beside each of the following:

Now first close all windows and browsers other then HiJackThis , then click fix checked and close HijackThis.

And then reboot your pc.
