I had the same experience. Firstly it happened on my Microland computer after a couple of years. I replaced teh hard drive, the power supply, doubled the memory, swapped the memory round etc. It got worse and worse. I cured it by removing the cmos battery for 20 mins and restarting, but it only lasted a few months.
I bought a new computer: Advent t9207. The same thing happened again. I tried a different socket and different ring main. Then I took the computer back and got it replaced, though they had to do a full restore, and so had to keep it in over night before they gave me a replacement. Someone then said that it could be a worm, undetected by F-Secure. This could have been reinstalled when I transferred back files from my old hard drive. The new, new computer also did the same once. I ran the disinfect software for sasser and blaster/lovesan. No probs since then. I am now going to put the old hard drive bck in my old Microland computer and run the disinfect software on there. You can download the software from F-secure. But it may be worth taking the PC back anyway. Richard |

HI Viper. My first post too. non techie I'm afraid.
Exactly the same problem - Advent t9207 bought from Pcworld last Sun. Keeps restarting at random points. Before I return it I'm trying warantee telephone support who have me operating in Safe Mode to see if crashes recur without graphics accelerator - yes they it does. 1. After reading the post "possible worms" I couldn't understand how to use aniti-virus to clean possible worms - are there specified names I need to tell it to look for? 2. Viper, if yours is a recent purchase then maybe there's a batch fault and asking for a straight replacement (which I was going to do) is not a good idea. Any views on 1. and 2. gratefully appreciated idleXP Last edited by idlexp; 09-15-2006 at 05:49 PM. |

I bought one last Thursday and am having exactly the same problems. I find that it happens most when I'm streaming video. I've tried to ring PC World helpline but it's continually engaged.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks, Rosie |

Well, I've finally got through to PC World Support who were no help whatsoever. It seems that this problem was found last week and is being
"looked into". No help or advice was offered. My first and last PC from PC World! Rosie |

HI there, i'm new here but decided to sign up and let you know whats going on with my brand new 't9207'.
Here's the deal, i purchased it about 3 wks ago and had the same old restart/blue screen problem!, and what PC world kindly forget to tell you is that you have a 28 day window in which to have your computer replaced for a new model of the same kind or a different brand of the same price!!!!!! After this you lose the opportunity for a switch and your comp is merely referred and kept in store whilst they sort the problem. Anyway rant out the way, here's a new one!!! I rang there support line line 3 times and after 3 20 minute conversations no solution was achieved. So i returned to the store where it was purchased and they offered a different brand replacement (other t9207s had sold out and 3 had already been returned) for the same spec it would have cost me a further £100 and for the same price i could have had a lower spec comp!!! (Not on either way) Anyway i complained and the assistant pulled his finger out of his A*&% and went to solve the problem. It turned out a Bios upgrade was needed and they did it there and then within 20 mins and Renewed my 28 day returns window. Comps worked fine for a week but just crashed again after tuning in media centre and installing wireless...i'm waiting to see what happens but i'll keep you updated. Hope this helps P.S. My advice would be to replace the computer straight away with a diffrent brand, looking at other forums the t9207 just seems to be a faulty product. I'm considering spending the extra 100 pound for a 'phillips' of the same spec. Good luck all stuneedshelp |
