Default backup hard drive problem

i just got my new computer with windows xp media edition... the hard drive was 120GB and i soon find out that its divided into 80GB C drive and a 20GB D drive. anyways i install all of the programs and load everything from my old computer onto the new one and now instead of saying Backup (D in my computer is says Local Disk (D and when i click it, i get a message saying that it needs to be formatted...i check that out and it says the maximum amoutn of room it would have is something like 5GB. has anyone heard of any programs that would do that...i installed goback if that makes a difference and there is a program called norton ghost that keeps telling me to back up my stuff. please help i need more room on my pc.

Welcome to the forum,

If I understand you right you need to either;

1) re-partition the drive to a single partition
or
2) Re-size the smaller partition

Either way, the trial (or full) version of Partition Magic will enable you to do this.
