Default "My Computer" freezes part-way open.

Apology for the length of this (if daunting, skip down to "When computer started rebooting..")

I just added a "Directory List Print" to my Explorer right click options and somehow the default choice (highlighted at the top of the list) changed from "open" to "search". Another classic Windows manuver!

Apparently the default selection governs what happens when you left click. So I googled and found:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...ad+of+Explorer

Installed this and all seemed OK-and may not have anything at all to do with what follows.

Some hours thereafter I shut down my computer because of bizarre behaviour of the computer resulting from combination of too many windows open, having burned some CD's and DVD's.

When computer started rebooting, it brought up a dark screen and sat and sat and sat. Tried restarting a couple of times, finally gave up and went to bed resolving to sort it out the next day. When I got up, the screen looked normal and all seemed well. Checked my email.

Then I clicked on My Computer and it brought up the My Computer frame and froze-not the computer, just the My Computer process. Had to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to stop the (un-responding) process. Repeated whole experience twice.

I can click on a desktop folder and windows explorer opens normally. So it is just My Computer that is freezing up. Tried to google, but searching on "My Computer" is impossible because the phrase "my computer" returns millions of results, but few to none talking about the same "My Computer" that I am.

CD and DVD proggies seem stuffed as well.

Have run sfc /scandisk, but no help.

How to repair this, preferably without a reinstall or repair-reinstall? TIA

Hengis, why do you think this is an infection?
