Hey all. Bit of a back story to this one.
Was at uni a few days ago, trying to connect to mIRC, and i got hit with Backdoor.IRC.ZCrew. It kept on coming up with these virus alerts that the trojan was coming in via these .tmp files. Some were deleted, others ,i was alerted to the fact that they could not be...anyway, with some fiddling around in safe mode and scanning.....my computer froze randomly and on the reboot i didnt get any more error messages through Norton AntiVirus about this particular trojan.
I did however notice that my drive's storage space went down by some 5-6 GB. Ive found the source of this problem. Somehow this trojan created 58000+ .tmp files all at 140KB.....they are all sitting in Norton's Quarantine Folder. Every time i try and go into quarantine through the program, the laptop freezes. When i go to the folder manually and try to select all the files and delete it that way...same story. Is there any work around cos Id sure like that 5GB back. I have tried deleting the files through msdos even- still no go. Am using Win Xp Pro on a Toshiba laptop.
Thanks all for your wisdom and help,
James
