Hi. This is my first post, so please forgive any violation of protocol.

Running winXP on a Gateway Microtower computer.

I have been informed by my computer that I have a problem with my Windows Installer program. I understand there is an installer clean-up utility available. I also understand there are a few pitfalls associated with this utility, such as having to reload some files, but I don't know which files are being referred to. Are there any other problems I should be aware of, and should I contact my computer manyfacturer for specific instructions?
Thanks so much for any help.

Hello Cliff, and welcome to the PCHF!

I've used this utility many times before and it doesn't cause many problems (if any)

If you can tell me the exact error message that you are recieving, which has told you there is a problem with your Installer, we can resolve it without using that utility.

GarHar:
Thanks for your response. Problems with Windows Installer include messages:

Loading winows Installer, looking for information,
Tray App - Same info
.NET Framework - same info
Some HP apps -same thing

All of these things just try over and over to load. The only way to stop them is to end each one in the task manager. Tried to load in safe mode, but message said installer was corrupted or not loaded. Suggested reloading. Any help? Thanks. Cliff

Hi Cliff, sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

It sounds to me as if there might be something stopping them from installing.
Just for the sake of being pedantic, would you mind following the steps in the Prework link in my signiture and posting the resulting logs back here?
