Red face Missint NTLRD

Ok my friend brought over his pc and when you turn it on it says missing NTLRD is this something to do with windows or his BIOS?

I also herd that you can fix this by setting all your bios settings to default?

or by doing a repair install of windows with the windows XP CD?

Heh, check first that there is no floppy disc in the floppy drive in the PC..it's a classic!

The other way to fix this is with a non-destructive repair install: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Im not sure my friend has a windows XP CD because he has pirated Windows XP.

He bought the PC from a small PC store in our city and he dosent know that much about PC's well aneyways the guy installed a pirated version of windows XP on the PC then sold the PC to him for almost 1000$ when its actually worth 500-700$

so i take it he should just buy WinXP and do a clean install?

Yup...let's say no more about that dodgy copy of XP...k?

Sadly, this is a way that some people make money..the purchaser only realises when they go to use Windows Update
