Looking very good already. Only the McAfee entrys are still present somehow.

Let's try it like this:

Go to Start > Run and type

cmd

and OK. Type or copy and paste the below commands and hit "Enter" after each line

sc stop McShield
sc stop mcupdmgr.exe
sc stop MCVSRte
sc delete McShield
sc delete mcupdmgr.exe
sc delete MCVSRte

Type Exit to close.

Run HijackThis , select to do a "system scan only" and then place a check beside each of the following:
(If still present)

O23 - Service: McAfee.com McShield (McShield) - Unknown owner - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\McAfee.com\Agent\mcupdmgr.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: McAfee.com VirusScan Online Realtime Engine (MCVSRte) - Unknown owner - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe (file missing)
Now first close all windows and browsers other then HijackThis , then click Fix checked and close HijackThis.

After that reboot your pc, and post a new HijackThis log please.

They're gone this time.

How is it going with your pc now, and have you been able to install you AV now?

Doesn't it install properly, or are you having problems using it?

What/where does it go wrong?

Also try a registry cleaner:

install and run RegSupremePro.
It will want to make a backup of your registry, let it do so. Once it has finished, click on the Registry Cleaner tab, select Aggressive. When it has completed, click on Select, choose All. Click on Fix, and let it fix everything that it has found.

Well, it doesn't seem to install properly... but I'm having another problem now that seems more prominent...

something I did seems to have killed permissions...

I have JRE 5 update 8... but when I go to websites with Mozilla Firefox or with IE it tells me 'you need this plugin'... and it tries to install it. Then it tells me I already have it installed so it can't, so I refresh, so it tells me I need to install it again... why won't it work?
