Angry Blue screen of death.....

" A problem has been detected ans windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" Technical info:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0XF853COBF, 0XF8988208, 0XF8987F08)
*** pci.sys- Address F853COBF, base at f853COBF base at F8535000, Datestamp 3b7d855c.

Hello everyone, this is my first time here. I seem to be having trouble on a clean, installation of windows xp pro sp/1. It is my frist time using SATA drives. I have tow of then hooked up, and I believe that I have the BIOS set up properly, I have then set up on RAID O. I put in the CD and I push the "F6" key and when prompted, I highlight the proper driver, so windows gathers all of the info. it needs from the cd I then see a message at the bottom of the screen "setup is starting windows" and then is when I get the blue screen of death. It mentions something about trying to change video adapters and I have tried two different pci-express cards and one regular pic video card and no luck, I still get the same message. The strange thing about this is that I happen to have a copy of Linux and loads up, no problem, so I don't know what else to do. Could any one hepl? Thank you.

Hi many110, and welcome to the PCHF!

Many problems installing Windows XP can be related to faulty memory. Are you able to test other memory in your computer? Or even run memtest from www.memtest86.com

Does your motherboard have onboard VGA that you could use to try to get windows installed instead of the pci/pci-express cards?

And do you have any other PCI cards installed? If yes, try temporarely removing those.

Also do you have a full windows disc, or a recovery disc ect.?

Unfortunatley, my motherboard does not have a VGA slot. I have a full verson of windows xp pro sp1. The strange thing about this is that when I do get the blue screen, it does not give me an error name. All I get is some troubleshooting advice and the stop code. I just tried to upgrade from a 1 stick of 512 DDR2 PC4200 to 1G DDR2 PC4200 and I still get the same blue screen of death.

It has something to do with PCI, thats why I asked if you have any other pci cards installed.

Do you have other pci cards in there? And if yes, have you tried it without them?

It could also be that the pci.sys file on the windows disc is damaged, and also the motherboard could be defective.

Also something else is that on some pci express motherboards you only seem to be able to install XP with sp2 included.

So try it without any other pci cards, or with an other windows disc, or make an windows XP disc with sp2 slipstreamed.

I have tried to install windows with out any other pci card and that did not help. I do have another pci card that I do not need and I will remove it and try again. I got a pci video card to see if that would allow me ot install window, sense that would eliminate the need for any pci express drivers, but I was wrong about that. Would you be able to give me more info on how I would be able to slipstream sp2 with windows xp pro? Thank you for all of your support.

Sure, no prob ofcourse.

Have a look here for info on how to do it manually:

Or you could also use an app like NLite to do that (and alot more):
