Default folders emptied in pc recovery

I am using a laptop running on xp mce. I recenty ran a pc recovery on this laptop. My laptop has 2 hard drives, one with the OS on it called OS(C, and one empty one called DATA(D. There were alot of video and audio files that I did not want to loose during this recovery so I saved them to my second hard drive (the empty one called DATA(D) After the PC recovery, the folders in the DATA(D drive were present, yet all the video and audio files in these folders are gone and the folders are now empty. Is there any way to recover these files or are they lost during PC recovery?
