Default Belkin Wireless G PCMCIA card causes Laptop to Freeze

Hi guys, I was wondering if one of you could help me with a little quandary. I have had this Belkin wireless G notebook network card (model #F5D7010) since January and it has worked quite all right in all that time. Then I was in a house which didn't have wireless access so I disabled it for the first time... When I tried to enable it again it kept giving me a code 10 error and saying there are not enough resources; then, when I tried to repair the network it would freeze and at first I thought this was a fatal error but when I took the card out of the slot the laptop worked fine again. I got the card working for a week but then I Disabled it again (not realising this is undoubtedly the root of my problems) and this time it wont work at all.

I'm using a Dell SmartPC 250N laptop which has Texas Instruments PCI-1520 CardBus controller. When I stick the card in the light goes on but it doesnt always make the hardware noise, I sometimes have to stick it in at an angle. when it is "working" it is unable to find the network and again when I try to repair it it'll freeze my laptop and then work when i yank the card out. when i reinsert it it'll have a (!) and say code 10. apparently it's in PCI Bus 3, Device 0, function 0. I'm running service pack two, and the only thing I installed while the card was disabled was Baldur's Gate II Shadows of Amn (which I doubt would have caused this much mischief).

I would be very much obliged to anyone who could help with this humdinger as it has me totally stumped! I think I need to edit the resources because of a conflict somewhere but I'm not entirely sure and I've never done this before.

If you guys need any more information just let me know.

Thanks, can't wait to hear back from you lot!

^Hope this is meant as a compliment^^
  1. Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Network Devices
  2. Uninstall the driver for your wireless card
  3. If your card also has software installed, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall that software
  4. Shutdown your computer
  5. Remove the wireless card
  6. Click Start > Run and type Regedit
  7. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Enum > PCI
  8. Right click on the PCI folder and choose Permissions
  9. Change the permissions somehow. I selected Everyone and gave that group Full Access.
  10. Reinstall the software and/or drivers for your card
  11. Shutdown your computer
  12. Put your card back in
  13. Reboot your computer
(From Experts Exchange)

Does this help at all mate?

Thanks for the big welcome, I know I should have had some sort of preamble but I'm just fed up with this **** thing not working.

I did what you suggested and I deleted a registry entry (once I got permissions enabled) for something which was using the same PCI bus function and device number, but, although it no longer seems to be freezing, it still says "this device cannot start (code 10)" and I don't know what the hell a code 10 is.

Is there any other info I could provide which might help better elucidate the situation?

Thanks for your help so far tho!

"elucidate"?! I'm having that word!

A code 10 error is to do with your systems resources mate. Can you Right Click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager and look down the list for any warning icons (usually yellow exclamation marks) - with any luck, there'll be one by your card...

ok, this time when i hit repair wireless connection it froze, and when i took the card out it resumed as if nothing had happened...

there is a little yellow exclamation mark, aye! "this device cannot start" allegedly. Do you think I might need a new driver or something? I honestly cannot think what I may have installed that would cause this conflict :S

That's the baby! (I hope!!)

Right click on it and 'update driver' mate. Try the windows update selection and see in Microsoft has a compatiable driver. If not, i'll find one that'll do the job mate.
