ha... yeah you're right! I found a netgear card at my friends house, downloaded the driver, installed it and presto it worked like a charm!

Thanks for trying to help, it was very kind of you to go to all that effort.

I have another problem which I may as well vent seeing as how we're all here lol; My logoff button has disappeared and I now need to press ctrl + alt + del to access my password screen. I can't think what's caused this and system restore doesnt show that i've installed anything. do you know how i might get it back?

cheers

Nik

No problem mate, glad that's sorted now!

As for your other problem, could you start a new thread with new problems please mate? Thanks.

To get you log off button back, you need to check these keys in your registry:

If you are the sole user of the comp, go to this address:-
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
If the DWORD "NoLogOff" is present in the right panel, give it a Data Value of "0"

If there are more than one user on your comp and you want all the users on the comp to have the LogOff, make your way here:- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\
Explorer]

Check if there's a DWORD there containing "NoLogOff", and set the value to "0"
