Microsoft Windows XP

Pro or Home will get you to the recovery console.

The CD's generally have holograms all over the top.

Okay so my dad is going to get a Windows XP CD from his office tomorrow. I have another question- how do I boot off the Windows XP cd?

As genie says, you can enter the bios via F1, F10, or the DEL key

Once in there, you will have Boot options - put CD as device 1. There are instructions of how to change the bios in there, what keys etc.

Make sure you don't change anything but the boot priority as the bios is more important then the registry in windows.

Sorry for the double post, but I have another question (sorry). My sister tells me that she went into regedit and searched for everything that had "winlogon" in its name and deleted it. Will recovering this one winlogon file allow me to log back onto my computer or do I need to do something else? Thanks.

Then just replacing the file wont work, but a repair install should:
