For some reason today my computer has stopped displaying any removable devices I attach, that includes both usb and memory card reader. So now I can't transfer stuff to my phone, I pod or anything else I plug in!! I've tried reinstalling all the hardware and updating drivers but with no joy

Hi Lusus.

When you plug in these devices, does it come up with a "device not recognised" message? or nothing at all?

The devices are showing up okay in the notification area and the device manager section of the control panel, but they are not being displayed in the main drive bit. I made an image capture, click this link to see what i'm on about: http://rapidshare.de/files/27080855/Grrr.jpg.html
Believe it or not I had 3 usb devices and a mmc plugged in when I took this.

That's a pretty pscyo font you've got yourself there.

Can you goto your Device Manager (under System Properties -> Hardware) and tell me if there's any "!" or "?" items?

Nope, there are no warning or error symbols shown. They show up okay in device management and it says they are healthy, but still no memory cards or usb will not work! I've even tried reinstalling Xp and all the drivers.
Oh, and I have a font that looks like blood dripping :-)

Hello Lusus,

you said u reinstalled XP. well you may have to install the drivers for the USB again. if you have your motherboard driver disk instert that into ur pc and install all the drivers on there. that should bring back your USB drives

When something is plugged in I get the noise and the icon in the notification area so the drivers must be detecting something. I've already installed all the drivers again, and the card reader is having the same problem. Could this be a registry problem?
