Question Logon and boot screen change problem

Hi there i recently downloaded a new logon screen and boot creen for windows xp and im not sure how to change the current windows screens to my new ones.(The website i downloaded from was no help at all)

The logon screen came in a file containing 2 images of the screen a new font and a .exe file. After running the .exe file nothing at all happens even after logging out and restarting my pc.

The boot screen comes with several images including one of my chosen screen and 2 .exe files, one apparently for use with normal windows xp and one for use with service pack 1.(I should note that i dont actually know what version of xp i own, sorry hehe)
After clicking on either of these files I get the same error screen:

The ''filename''.exe application cannot be run in Win32 mode

Thanks id really appreciate help with this.

P.S has anyone ever had tiny little mayflies somehow get into your laptop screen between the screen and the transparent plastic layer or is it just me??? its quite annoying as both of them appear to have died close to the centre of the screen lol if anyone can help with that 2 id appreciate it

Thank you

Hya Royston.

If you would link to the site where you got them from then we could have a look and probebly get those to work for you.

But you could also have a look at these 2 free apps:

http://www.stardock.com/products/bootskin/

http://www.stardock.com/products/log.../download.html

You can get thousends of screens for those for free here:

Try a can of compressed air to blow them out.

Angry well thats broken my pc lol

Ok I went on the websites you suggested and set up a new logon and boot screen, after restarting my laptop to see my finished work it all went wrong.

The new boot screen came up as my pc booted up however was replaced with a blue error message, unfortunatley i cannot read this message as literally 1 second later my computor restarts and the only way i can load it up is to use safe mode.

In safe mode i tried changing back to the original screens using the 2 programmes that you recomended, however after restarting my laptop again the boot screen hadnt changed and agian i got the error message, even more annoying was after loading up on safe mode i found that the logon screen hadnt changed either.

I then tried to delete the 2 programmes thinking this was sure to fix the problem but no, now i am left with the error message and no way to remove the new boot and logon screens as i cant access the internet to get the prgrammes again on my laptop in safe mode.

Please help im going mad here lol!!!!!!!

P.S. thanks for the tip on compressed air im going to my local photography shop to get some soon

Thats not good.. and shouldn't happen. Maybe a conflict of some sort with the ones you tried earlier.

Try this in safemode:

go to start / run and in the run window type in:
sfc /scannow >enter
Have you XP CD in youre drive, and it'll run itself, replacing any missign or damaged protected XP files.

FYI - XP bootscreens are reliant on what service pack your running. A boot screen that ran on the base version of XP will not work with SP1 or SP2. A boot screen that ran on XP1 will not work on the other 2, and the same for SP2.

What you need to do is make sure that you've got the right bootscreen for the right version of your windows. And oddly enough, the logon screen is an easy change, there is one program i used but the name evades me at the moment, will try and find it again for you. Extremely simple to use and very very straight forward.
