Windows XP/2000 - Crashing posted in the Operating Systems forums; My friend has this problem At the screen where you select your account to use. He says it crashes he his enable to select any of the accounts....

Default Crashing

My friend has this problem

At the screen where you select your account to use. He says it crashes he his enable to select any of the accounts.

Crashes how? Does he receive any error messages? Does the PC re-boot or freeze?

Has your friend tried to go into Windows thru Safe-mode and then checking the msconfig > startup list and removing anything that he doesn't recognise (we can look at it if he needs help). Also another thing to try is to load the "Last known good configuration" from the "Safe-Mode" selection screen, this will load the last know GOOD copy of the registry and will more than likely fix whatever it is that is stopping him from logging in.

As you switch on the PC - when it gets to the black screen with the white writing, press F8 repeatedly every second or so. You will then be presented with a menu - you can choose the options detailed above from that menu.
