Default Boot from external CD Drive

Hi.

I have a Toshiba laptop that's a couple of years old. The CD drive is broken so I have an external one instead. Now I have to reinstall win XP, but I can't get it to boot from the external drive. In the BIOS, I can only choose Floppy, HDD and CD drive as boot devices, not an external USB device as I can on my other PC.

Any help will be appreiciated.

It does not have removeable media as an option? How old is the system?

lol - think it is 3 or 4 years old.

It is a Satelite 1410-614. It came with Win XP.

Hi,
folks!
The same problem. Sony PCG-FXA32 (6 years old, wish to set up for peer-to-peer connections only), a mechanical problem with cdrom, won't spin.
Have another notebook Sony PCG-GRX700, and an external dvdrom from LG.
Manage to load win98 boot floppy on my old notebook, get to A: prompt.
It won't recognize ext.dvdrom, connected through usb port.
May be, it's possible to load XP on it via my other notebook?
Any thoughts?
Appreciate.
