Default Geo's System Problems

i was having some problems with maintaining internet connectivity. some freezing that occurred while offline led me to believe that my problems were not related to my ethernet card. as a result i decided to remove certain programs that i had loaded that i considered superfluous. i think i went too far and as a result, some pages are displaying strangely online. but more importantly, i am suddenly unable to retrieve email meesages. for example, when i go to MSN.hotmail, after i supply my password, when i get to my mailbox, i click on messages and nothing happens. please help. thank you

Hi Geo,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here, and I feel certain that we will be able to get to the root of your difficulties.

Because your original problems sound as if they are malware related, I am going to ask that you carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, and post back here with the resulting three logs, ewido, Spy Sweeper, and HijackThis.

Also, can you please post for me the list of programs that you uninstalled. (Just checking, you did uninstall them, not just delete them, correct?)

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hey Guys,

(Thread moved to XP forum)

@Geo, I think we need to rename this issue, to Geo's Sytem problems, the issue isn't actually your email. It's a lot of things I suspect.

Looking forward to your reply,

Default prework

Dear lady, i completed all the prework tasks with the exception of ATF Cleaner (majorgeeks webpage would not open at all) and ewido ( operating system is 98). i have my hijack list and spy sweeper logs. unfortunately, i am unable to use the attachment function on this page. in fact, i cannot click onto any of the functions. therefore i am going to post them within the email (spy sweeper will be on a separate thread actually). my apologies. iam not sure exaclty of all the progarams i removed. quick time as one. design essentials and office in color were others. i did deete more folders that were in windows and program files. some were empty however but admittedly i am not certain what all of them were. i look forward to your reply and thanks again for all your help.

:o Oh Geo! I have a feeling this is going to be a long one, LOL.

OK, I have to log off for the evening, I am going to leave your logs open on my PC so this is the first thing I deal with in the morning. In the mean time one of the Security Team may chime in, they are wonderful, please follow any directions thoroughly.

Look forward to any reply in the mean time.

Hi Geo,

How much time and energy are you prepared to invest in repairing the PC as opposed to starting fresh?

You are EXTREMELY infected, and I am afraid that between the damage that the malware has done, and the damage you have done to your system, it may never be right. The best course of action is for you to wipe the hard drive, and reload Windows. I am certainly willing to give it a try, but I don't want you to get your hopes up.

So, if you want to try to fix it, let me know. If you want to wipe it and start clean, make sure that you have the installation CD for your OS, and I will walk you through the process.

Also, did you run Spy Sweeper in Safe Mode, or regular mode?

I look forward to your reply,

TTFN
