Default Comp bootup/monitor problems! [NEED HELP]

SO I am basically clueless of what to do about my computer. It's been having so many problems all to do with booting up and the monitor. Let me explain. It takes me a good 7 times every time i reboot the computer for it to actually start running before the screen dies on me. The only way I know the computer will be good for at least a couple minutes is when i reboot it and i get the options of how i want to run it, thus i am running it in safe mode with networking at the moment to post this.
My comp freezes whenever i play anything with windows media player.
My comp randomly goes crazy, thinks get all fuzzy like when your video card can't handle what you are doing...
Sometimes when i shut it off and try to restart my computer says it failed to pass checkpoint [PnP4]
maybe that will help...
I thought maybe it was viruses or spyware so have run countless anti apyware and anti virus programs but who knows...
I thought my monitor was just dying but this can't be the case because I can run the computer for weeks in safe mode now and it dies as soon as I run it normally.
I am forced to keep rebooting the computer because my monitor seems to die and is unresponsive. Let me explain what i mean by dies. The power button that is green when the monitor is running goes yellow and the screen turns black and dies. The only way to shut off the computer from this point is manually, the power button doesn't work.
Everyime after the 7 times i get the computer running, it says the system has recovered from a serious error, but it won't let me send in the error report.
My computer is going wack and it seems to be getting worse, the longer it goes on the less time i get between shutdowns on the comp. sometimes it will last for 15 minutes, sometimes 30 seconds I never know.
If anyone has any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it please help. thanks alot

Hey bub

Welcome to PCHF

Well like I told ya on MSN, looks like you need a repair install as it seems a lot of your windows iles are either gone, damaged, corrupted, or non-working.

Cheers

hi adamsworld

Welcome to PCHF...

Can you please insert your Windows CD into the drive, and goto Start -> Run -> type in sfc /scannow

this scans all your system files for missing / corrupt files, and replaces them

might take a couple of hours, and it will fix them automatically.

Sounds like it could also be a problem with your video card and/or driver. Have you tried reinstalling your video driver already?

Or do you have an other video card to test with maybe?
