Hey, I hate to post in such an old thread, and I apologize if I shouldnt, if so, please delete this post.

I was curious, why does the C partition for Windows XP have to be 15GB's? It seems a bit high seeing as though XP only takes up 5 or so GB's and nothing else is going on that partition.

Thanks a ton,
Connor

I don't know. My Windows partition is 3gb, from wich almost 1.5gb free.

I just did the math, and it would make sense that maybe he accidentally added an extra zero. Remove the zero, and its just over 1.5GB's, approx. what you said. I dont know though, Ill wait for his answer.
Thanks!

Oops.. No , i didn't mean that as a recommendation or guidline or anything.
I should have added that i use an extremly stripped XP install. So that is 1.5 gb for windows , including program files and documents folders for me , but a normal install needs alot more space.

You should have atleast 4/5 gb i guess for a standard XP install even without paging file , documents folders , and program files folders. You will always want to keep quite some free space (windows needs free space to work properly) , and it will be a pain if you run out of space on youre C: partition in a couple of months or so.

Especially if you use system restrore , that will also need quite some space then.

The more space you have free, the faster it runs...

The pagesys file is about the same size as your total ram, if you dont specify otherwise. The pagesys file is used to virtual memory, and other random windows tasks

ultimately, the best setup would be to have this on a hard drive (not just partition) all to itself.

So, Im in the process of reinstalling everything, all looks good. However, I do have one problem: For whatever reason, the Paging File partition wont accept the # 1024 when I go to set up the virtual memory. This is probably because the format took a little bit of space away from me. Also, every other second, a stupid message pops up saying Im running out of space on that partition. Is there a way to a)shut that message up, and b) is 1019 an ok number still for the virtual memory?

Thanks

EDIT: Another question: Im now installing some of my programs, ie antivirus, spysweeper, etc. Should these be installed in C:\Program Files, or should I change that directory?
