The cheaper disc is going to be the Upgrade Version (£80), the £100 is the full version. Id use the full version as the upgrade asks for a previous version of Windows CD during installation to make sure that you are eligable for the upgrade. However if you havent got a previous Windows CD i recommend you use the full version.

Is that why it wont boot from the cd then?
I don't think PC World will take back the CD as its all open etc.
Although the bloke in the shop said it would work... I suppose its worth a try.
Thanks for you help
Matt

Hi EmattE, there is a solution, but irritating.

MS has been supplying discs (6 of them) for a long time to boot from an upgrade cd...i'll get you the link. This is for XP Home SP2...as this is a brand new cd install for XP, i'm assuming it is SP2 already.

Hey. I went out and returned the other one bought the full version for £200!
And just my luck... more problems. Its probably just something imdoing wrong.

I CAN boot up from this CD. I went to Install it when i was logged on and it came up with NEW INSTALL (advanced). so went thru that. Then it restarts and i get to the R to Repair Enter to continue bit etc... I go to press "d" to format c:/ and it says it can't because it has temporary files needed for setup. Please help.
Many thanks
Matt

P.S Congratulations on The sucessful move... (i appreciate that your probably really busy) The board looks better from what ive seen already!

Here's a different approach for you to try: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Hey.
Well... if you can think of all the things that could possibly go wrong times that by 1000 and your about where i am now.
Before i came back to this site after the down time etc. i looked at some other guides. And someone suggested that i try booting with a 98 boot disk and use fDisk or that format. Well i did that and waiting for the format thing to reach 100 i thought everyting was going fine. I went to make a partition and restart the computer with the XP CD to install windwos. And now i can't get on the computer at all. I can't boot with the 6 XP boot discs, 98 disc, or the xp disc. It says
"Invalid System disk"
"Replace the disk and then press any key"
"Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM: Failure"

I really don't have a clue. I even rang A computer person. But he said just the call out fee would be rather expensive (the downside of living in the middle of nowhere)

Sorry about the long post...
Thanks for all your help
Matt
