Question IIS (Windows Xp Pro) & Symantec Norton Internet Security 2006

Hello

im having a terrible evening ive just installed NIS 2006 aswell as Microsoft IIS 5.1 Webserver on Windows XP professional SP2

NIS auto configured the IIS server and i changed to make sure it was using "Connections to a webserver etc" there option.

anyway i get the test page working on IIS if i type my IP Adress in my browser and it works fine!

I try adding my domain name in the browser pointing to this server and i get "page cannot be displayed" ive installed lots of windows updates plus norton updates and still no luck

ive contacted symantec - there advice is useless telling me i need to consult microsoft and not them.

i try searching for help on microsoft and i am still back at square one. if anyone can help please let me know.

im extremely annoyed at both symantec and microsoft as there help is just absolute c**p!

thankyou
Anthony.

Hi Anthony, and welcome to PCHF.

With IIS, it uses IP Addresses (which you have mentioned works fine) and 2 different names. The first of which being localhost, and the second being the computer name.

Can you try those for me please? Say your IP Address is 192.168.0.5, that would be entered as http://192.168.0.5/. This is the same as the names....http://localhost/ and http://yourcomputername/

While I know little about server setup-- I can certainly agree with you about Symantec support... it's why I have AVG... and I've never been sorry.
