Exclamation Running very slow only after 3 month

Hi, I have a Compaq Presario with AMD Sempron 3400+ 2.0Ghz CPU proccessor, 100GB storage, and 256mb RAM (223mb utilized). I got this PC only 3 month ago and it is already running really slow. Before when I double click programs, they open instantly, but now to open My Computer it takes 5-10 seconds, and to open Microsoft Word it takes more than a minute. I have tryed everything to clean the pc, like fixing the registry, getting rid of spyware and viruses, getting rid of useless files, and defregmenting. I have downloaded and installed a lot of programs to the computer that took up alot of space but there are still 50GB space left. I though that the memory might be to small but the pc isn't using all of the memory most of the times. Also the pc is supose to run a 2GHz, but now i checked the system info, it is only running at 994MHz.
Is there any way i can fix it and return it to normal, and why is it doing that. Is it because of the spyware and viruses the pc have had?
PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi-- and welcome to PCHF--
I am sorry that your post seems to have been missed --the site was down for abot 36 hours while the new server was installed-- but yours still should've had some help before that.

You say you have fixed the registry: with a program? if so which one?? Also --though you removed some viruses and malware I'm still goind to bring this post to the attention of senior staff --as what you describe sounds a LOT like a hidden infection -- and they may need to use some special tools to help you.

Please be patient -- I will PM some of the security experts we have & see what they think.

I would really recommend to get some more ram to be able to utilyze that proc a little better. Your pc will run alot better with say 1gb of ram.

I don't know to much about multiplyer settings in the bios for proc settings so I'll leave that for the hardware guys but that is probebly the reason for the slowdowns you are having I think.

But to have a look for "hidden".. infections, let's run the standard "Prework" instructions. If you click on the "Prework" link below in my sig, follow those instructions and post back with the resulting logs then we'll have a look at those.

As far as that CPU under-clocking is concerned, can you go into the bios and set everything to default - then test the CPU speed again. Also, what does the speed show as in the bios before and after you make the change?
