Unhappy Can't install anything I download

Well I just can't take this anymore, so I'm here. I'm really hoping for a miracle...anyways.

Whenever I download something and try to install it, I get a red "X" box with an error message saying the source file is corrupted, cannot continue with installation. Or other assorted installation errors. Here is one when I try to install RealPlayer after downloading it:

Setup decompression failed, possible download error.
Please download this file again or contact your system administrator.

I can install any program that I install from a CD or DVD however. The only issue is when I download it first. I've tried DLing with my firewall off and on. I've also tried downloading programs through a download manager with no change.

Please help me...

Hi there RemyBurke, welcome to PCHF.

Firstly...what kind of internet connection do you have? dsl/dialup/cable?
Secondly...what internet browser are you using, and what virus scanner are you using?

Hi there!

I am on a 1500kb cable connection. I run IE and Firefox.

I don't run a virus scanner, aside from the weekly adaware/search and destroy I run.

I built this PC myself, it's my first.

AMD 3800+ dual core
2gig 3200 RAM
6800GS Nvidia card
ASUS 939 socket SLI MoBo
320gig 16mb cache HD

I've asked around, I've asked my friends. It has been an issue since the first day I put it together so that's why I never considered a virus to be an issue. I can download patches for games such as EQ2 or WoW fine, but BF2 patches corrupt. It's really hit or miss.

I could say it's because of WoW...but I won't because that would be a lie

The motherboard you have...is it an Asus A8N-SLi? Deluxe? Premium?

If it has 2 network ports, can you please try plugging into the other network port for me?

Here's a couple of traceroutes. I only have 1 network port.

Basically, what's happening to your files as you download them, they're changing file size, either slightly larger, or slightly smaller (even if it's one byte)...the file will come back as "incomplete" and not open.
I've had this problem before, connected into one of my network ports, i changed the plug and it worked fine. I've not got both ports working perfectly, with new chipset drivers. But I had to download them.

What I can suggest, is for you to contact a friend with a burner, or even a USB key...download the latest chipset drivers and LAN drivers as well, install them onto your computer, and try again.

Wow someone on this planet can answer this question! Heheh, I never thought this day would come. Even if this doesn't solve the problem, it's definately worth a shot. I will certainly do this.

Would I get these drivers off of Asus' main site I take it?

Thanks again very much.
