hi scouse..
uninstalled all drivers..tryed plugging mouse in..found it installed it..then when i booted back up...nothing,, black screen again mouse not working..yet power light is on..went in to device manager mouse under usb human interface device...cannot start code 10...
yet i can plug it straight in to another pcand it works fine and no problems on start up.. and mouse works..
ive downloaded new driver for it but still the same..
evan does it with printer.. if i leave printer power switched off on start up pc ok
but if power switched on...black screen 1 min wait and printer dont work..
its only with windows sp2 i get these problems ..
ive uninstalled drivers for mouse..web cam and printer and tryed installing one at a time to see if it is one of the drivers..but same thing happens every time..to each of them..slow start up black screen item does not work untill unplugged and replugged back in...each one comes up with the device cannot start code 10..in device manager....
thought it could be usb's dead or dieing..but i tryed a pci usb card and the same thing happens with that.
i give up..its going flying..lol

Oh no it isn't mate!

When you say you updated the drivers, do you mean for your devices or the USB drivers? You'll need to update the USB drivers after installation of SP2.

I'm gonna call in some help on this one mate, so don't start those flying lessons just yet!!

Hey Guys,

My welcome to PCHF to you as well Shane,

Do you have a regular ps2 mouse and keyboard that you can use while we troubleshoot the USB ports?

After installing SP2, have you gone through and completed the updates?

I would have you completely uninstall any software regarding the three items, and complete your updates. With ps2 mouse and keyboard plugged in, I would install the printer. Then we can test the USB response.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi Shane,

OK, this one is wierd, really wierd.
Are you installing SP2 from a CD or from the Microsoft website? Before you installed SP2, did you follow the instructions for the install? Get Your PC Ready for Windows XP SP2

Have you removed SP2, and completely checked your PC for malware? If not, carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, and post back the resulting three logs, ewido, Spy Sweeper, and HijackThis.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

hi ladygreen witch..
thanks for that..but i have tryed all that still nothing.
i have given up now. i dont have sp2 on disc i downloaded from microsoft
same as i did for pc upstairs . printer webcam and mouse work fine on that one no problems what so ever so i know all three work ok.
ive been around web looking but cant find anything related to my problems.
im just stumped as to why if i plug them in now windows finds devices and installs them and they work great.. untill i restart pc.. then it hangs again and devices dont work..unless i unplug them and plug them back in ?..
might just go buy me a mac..just to pee bill gates off..lol
