Alternative GUIs?

Does anyone know of any alternatives to explorer? My old friend's brother had a program that I can't remember the name of that was basically start menu, but it was My Computer instead of start menu folder and came up on right click that wasn't explorer dependent. Does anybody know what it is? Thanks.
