I just bought a new PC in Japan, with Windows XP SP2 (Japanese) installed. I'd like to get rid of the Japanese version and install English Windows XP. I don't know how. I'm hoping you guys will know.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Welcome again
![]() If you goto Start -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Advanced -> and select your prefered language from the top dropdown menu. I've never actually tried it, but it will require your windows xp cd. GL, let us know how you go.

Hi Kento,
Welcome to PC Help Forum mate! Is that what you're trying to do - change the language options? Or are you wanting to uninstall the current XP and reinstall with English? If it's the latter, you can boot up with your new CD in. Enter the setup, and delete the current partition (which will format over your old Japanese XP). Then just continue the installation steps and you'll have English XP installed. If it's the language/regional settings you were after - hope GaRHaR helped mate!!

Thanks. I tried it, but it looks like I have to get rid of the Japanese OS and replace it with the English OS. The problem is, I haven't done this since DOS 6.0... That was a while ago.

Okay, here's what I did... (I'd really like to hear your feedback re. whether or not this was a good idea.)
I loaded the English XP on a seperate partition on my hard drive, so now I have a multi-bootable PC. When I power up my PC, it gives me the option of which OS to use, with the English one as the default. Since I usually hibernate, rather than shut down, I shouldn't have to deal with it much. Whaddya think? Oh, also, is it easy to create a new partition on that hard drive so I can keep the OS seperate from al my other shtuff? Kent |
