Default Windows loading screen takes too long (4-5 minutes)

I just got a new SATA hard drive, installed Windows XP Pro on it, installed my MB chipset drivers, video drivers, etc. Now when I start up, I see that Windows XP Pro "loading screen" (a black screen with the XP Pro logo, and a little blue bar moving across the bottom) for about 4 or 5 minutes, then Windows starts and runs normally). With my old slow HD, I used to see that blue bar go across its little box two or three times (maybe 8 seconds).

The only thing I changed was the HD, from two IDE 160's in RAID 0 to a single SATA Raptor.

I probably just have a bad RAM stick or something, though I've been using these DIMMs for quite a while now. I will run memtest tonight to check both sticks. But in case that's not it, have you seen this before? If so, do you know what causes this?

Thanks.

Hi Votey,

Welcome to PCHF, my sincerest apologies for the delay in answering your post.

Have you determined if your RAM was indeed causing the problem? If your memtest was clean, I would look to my BIOS, is it the most current version?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
