Default Product Key changed

Dear Friends,
I have integrated SP2 pack to my Windows XP Professional CD. When I try to install the OS from this new CD, I see that my original product key does not work. Please suggest me a solution to this problem. Thanking all
Yours faithfully

Hi Ilahiri,

My welcome to PCHF, I have not previously had the pleasure.

I am curious as to why you added the SP2 to your version of XP, did you have instructions from Microsoft on this proceedure?

The reason I ask, is, depending on which version of XP you do have, there may have been a large number of updates that needed to be done prior to SP2's install. Consequently, SP2 would override the original XP information. It is one of the problems that Microsoft has encountered when ever an SP2 problem comes up, and the user has to uninstall it to do repairs.

Looking forward to your reply,

Hya LGW , slipstreaming SP2 into XP is a very good thing to do. It will save alot of time and work when installing windows and it will be a lot cleaner installation , even more stable. And installing all separete updates before installing SP2 is not needed and even a bad idea. SP2 will already contain lots of those.

@Ilahiri , i have done things like this and alot more with my XP disc and my key never changed , it shouldn't do that. Only if you change alot of hardware then the key might not work anymore.

You should be able to call MS and explain the situation , if the disc/key is legit then they will provide a new key for you for free.

Thanks for the explanation Joe. I only interacted with SP2 seperately, at the time it was problematic, and difficult if all updates were not done seperately. It is good to hear that Microsoft has finally gotten some update right.

At Ilahiri, my apologies for the outdated information, please follow Joe's suggestions.

Looking forward to your reply,
