Exclamation Problem With Folders

Hey guys, i had put a few folders of mine as private, so that nobody else could access them even though it was on a single hard drive which everybody in my house used. Since i had issues, with my computer, i installed a new xp on a different drive, but i cannot access those accounts, and i cannot click on the make private button 4 some reason. I think this is because i had put it as private in the old XP(which i haven't removed yet). So i need some help of getting access to the folders without loosing my info in it. I cannot login into the old XP due to problems, so i need a way to be able to access all the files i want to, which are protected. I am pretty sure it is not malware or a virus, because i had a technician check it for me, for it has got to do something wit the old XP. Cheers.

All you need to do is take ownership of the folders, which is extremely easy to do (so much for security).

Follow these steps

1) Open My Computer
2) Select Tools -> Folder Options -> View
3) Scroll down to the bottom and Uncheck Simple File Sharing Apply & Close
4) Navigate to your "private" folders
5) Select and right click. Click on Sharing and Security
6) Select the Security Tab.
7) Find your username in this, and give yourself Full Control access.

This should work, if it doesn't, there is another way.

Yea, I found it out a while ago, and committed it to memory, as it is such a useful thing to know. If someone's hard drive fails, I can get access to all their files and safe their work from being lost for ever. Or if it happens to me (which it did)
