Default Screen Saver Problems

I am on a HP PAvilion notebook running WInXP/SP2...

My screen saver was working fine but now it will not stay on more than 5-6 minutes...it comes on as it should after 10 minutes but then goes off after 5-6 minutes and I have watched the (hd light) and can not see any activity causing it to turn off...

Any help will be appreciated...

Thanks,

Hilton Heflin

any chance its being bumped? Just a shot in the dark there..LOL I have that problem from time to time and have found that alot of the screensavers from places like freeze.com that offer free screensavers and then you pay for the upgrade will randomly access IE to spam you...And when the explorer pops up it causes the SS to go off...If your SS is from a site like this try uninstall and then reinstall and check the options to see if auto updates is checked...if so uncheck it and try that....hope this helps..

I dunno if this helps, but my mouse had a bad wire, and it would shake or move randomly, causing my SS to go off

Hey Hefs!

What happens, does the monitor turn off?
It's possible that it's set your monitor to stand-by after 15 minutes.

Or do you get back to Windows after those 5-6 minutes?

I have it set for the screen saver to start after 15 min...this works fine...the XP logo floates on the screen...the after 5-6 minutes the screen saver stops and the "desk top' shows back up..for no apparent reason...

Thanks,

Hefs

Just a random guess but maybe it could be something to do with your firewall?
Maybe your firewall has just blocked a attempt to access your computer?

But if it's happening dot on 5-6 mins then I doubt it
