Default CTRL keyboard shortcuts won't work...

Hi guys,

Not sure what this is about, I haven't changed anything on my computer recently (installed or downloaded) but for some reason I can't highlight text and ctrl copy it or any other ctrl function. The only one I've noticed that works is ctrl+f in Word, so I know the ctrl key isn't broken.

My keyboard language is fine (United Kingdom) so it may be a piece of spyware or virus that caused it. Either way I've run all my removal programs so the problem should be gone now, so I just need to rectify the issue and find out where about in Windows I can fix this. I assume there is a setting somewhere in the registry that has been changed?

If anyone can help that would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hey Littlejones,

Can you please post what programs you have run, and what if anything they found?

Also, could you please post an ewido and HJT log back here? If you don't have those programs, please carefully follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature, and post back the two logs.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi there,

I've done a hijackthis log and a Silent Runners log and a WinPFind log. I ran Ewido but I set it to clear everything up that it found because it was taking so long so it would have chucked anything it found anyway.

I hope these are of help, although I think that now the damage has been done so to speak, that the problem won't be reversed through removing the offending program, but rather by editing windows settings?

Thanks for the help, I look forward to your reply.

Hi Littlejones,

Thanks for those, yes I probably would have done the same, but if you can find it, knowing what ewido fixed, as well as anything that it wasn't able to, is very important, so the log from that session would be very helpful.

Looking forward to your reply,

Hiya,

here you go then. From what I can see it seems to be mostly tracking cookies (if not all). It's really annoying as I keep forgetting about the problem so I highlight lots of my work and then press ctrl+c and then everything I highlighted disappears and is replaced with the letter 'c', because it's obviously not recognising the connection between ctrl+c. The ctrl key isn't broken though as ctrl+f works in Word. I can right click and copy stuff and I can click 'edit' and select copy (and paste) etc, but I don't know how I would go about fixing the shortcut.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Littlejones,

Sorry, I keep getting called away, and have to keep starting over.

Thanks for posting the ewido, it definitely cleaned everything that it found.

You should fix this with HijackThis;
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://messenger.msn.com/flash/?mkt=...rsion=7,0,60,0
Just curious, are you using Office XP? Do you have the language/alternative input services enabled? This might be the problem,
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
If you do, fix the above with HJT, and disable the service from your speech tools.

Did you run HijackThis from Safe Mode? If you did, can you please run it in regular mode, and repost a log? Thanks,

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi again,

I did run HJ in safe mode (as well as the others). Here is my HJ log in normal mode. I removed the file you mentioned in your last post after it saved a log so thats why it still appears in the log.

I'm pretty sure I'm using Office 2002, so I didn't delete the other file you mentioned.

I'll await your further instructions.

Thanks for the help
