Default Win XP ree space errors aren'rt fixed w' chkdsk

I have run chkdsk (both /f and /r) to fix errors (in order to use Partition magic 8) but a subsequent run of chkdsk says ' free space marked as allocated in volume bitmap'. How can I reid of these errors?

Hi there, welcome to the forum. Are you running those commands in the recovery console?

Hey Guys,

@Toneas, I think it would be a good idea to combine your threads, as I think they are related. It will make more sense for the team to deal with them as one. I will address them both once I combine your threads.

My welcome to PHCF as well by the way.

OK Andy,

Let's start again; first of all, are you partitioning a new drive, or are you trying to partition one that contains your data?

Partitioning with data in place can be tricky. Before we start talking about how, can you first get into what it is exactly that you want to do, and why. That way we can give you the best advice on what you actually are trying to accomplish.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
