Default Windows Media Player Crashes

WMP, and Real Player, both of my video playing-programs, refuse to play videos. I load them up, and they start to play, no problem, but they just freeze on the first frame, and nothing happens. Then I have to end-task the player. I've tested the video on another computer, and it plays fine. What do I do? Microsoft help is useless, as usual.

One thing I need to check still is if audio files play...

I know I'm missing some details. Anyone had a similar problem? Anyone have any questions so I can clarify the problem?

Hi gmtyrtant!

Does it happen to every video (as you say you've tested the video in another computer)?

I'm very curious to hear whether the problem also occurs when you play audio.

What version of Media Player are you running?
What type of video are you trying to play (e.g. .avi, .mpg)? You might need codecs.

Blue

Gah. Codecs. Things of the devil. I'm having some other computer issues right now, I'll check those things ASAP. Thanks for the reply!

I've tested other videos, with the same results. Audio works fine. I had WMP 10, but just upgraded to 11. Same problems. I've got loads and loads of codecs, I don't think they are the issue...

I had this problem, like 5hrs ago.

I recently installed an Avi 2 DVD converter, and uninstalled it after using it. The motherfu**ker deleted my video codec's. I just reinstalled my K-Lite codec pack, and now it works fine.

Hope that helps

it shouldn't really be a codec issue, as the audio would still play, just have the "not so fancy" graphics in WMP instead of the video...i would strongly suggest you stop using either of those programs, as they are both evil

try a program called BSPlayer, see if the same thing happens - it's only small and very simple to use.

Nice sig GarHar. I always did like that quote.

WMP is pretty evil...I've tried Realplayer, but that's pretty bad too. Maybe WinAmp? Never used that one. I'll download this BSPlayer and see what happens. I'll post back soon.
