Default Start Up in Windows XP

I have tons of programs starting up in Windows and it sure slows down the startup. I was told that there are just a very few things that are mandatory to have in startup to ensure that my pc WILL startup with no problems. Things like "systray", etc. There are so many things listed when I go to "start menu>run>" type in "msconfig" and click on the Startup tab. What are the basic things I need in there..or what are the things I MUST not check off???

Hey MasterMom!

Well if the programs are not Microsoft (Windows), they can probably all be deselected. You might want to keep some, such as your Nvidia or ATI Graphics card software.
If you're unsure, post back exactly what the process is that you doubt to deselect and we'll be happy to help you.

It also really depends on what you do with youre pc , and what you have installed.

But have a look at these pages:

http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm

You should be able to find almost everything on there with a short discription , and often if it is necessary or not to have it running.
