Hi Joey,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a wonderful team of techs here, with a wide variety of experience, I feel sure we can help you track down the problem.

First of all. Can you please post your PC specs; make, model, mobo, RAM, OS, and CPU?

Can you also please post what happened prior to this happening on your PC? Did you come in one day, and Poof? Did you install new hardware or software?

When you say you reformated, did you completely remove all partitions, reinstall the partitions, reformat, and then reinstall the OS?

It may be that your copy of the ntdll.dll file has become corrupt.

If that is the case, and we'll be able to tell from the answers to my other questions, we should be able to get you a new copy of the ntdll.dll file, and get you back to operational.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi,

Thanks for your quick responce. My computer is an upgrade of my old computer which has an AMD Athlon 1800+ 1.5ghz with Windows XP professional with 128mb RDRAM.

I came back from work one day and just like you said 'poof' it had this error message when i tried to start it up.

You asked when i reformatted did i 'completely remove all partitions, reinstall the partitions, reformat, and then reinstall my OS' i did everything you said however only up to when it came to reinstall my OS. Whenever i got to that point where it has to restart the whole formatting process would start all over again from the beginning screen asking whether i would like to reformat.
So there is currently no OS installed.

Thanks,
Joey

Hey Joey,

Is this a CD that you have used before and know to be good? Are we talknig about XP, or another OS?

Don't fret, we'll get it to work, one way or another.

Looking forward to your reply,

OK Joey,

Let's go back to the beginning and remove the partitions again. Did you use FDISK the first time? If not, that may be where we are getting glitches.

Have you used FDISK before, or do you need a walk through?

Another thought, do you have a harddrive checker in your BIOS? If so, it would be worth having the PC do a self check to see if there are bad sectors on your HD.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
