Does anyone know if there is any free software out there that can scan & detect files that were left behind when I uninstalled programs and also be able to delete them.

I know there's probably loads of files that were left behind but I haven't got a clue what they are. Don't want to delete anything important

Also, does anyone know if there is a site that lists all the applications etc that are essential to run at start-up. Not sure which one's I can safely disable without it affecting my PC

Have you tried CCleaner? It's in my signature. It also has a mini reg cleaner in it that will completely clean up all of that junk. I highly recommend it.

I've noticed that sometimes when I uninstall something it will leave some files/folders on hard drive which I have to remove manually, some are obvious but others not sure about. Yes I do use CCleaner and others

I personally don't know software that fixes this problem.
I think it's difficult as these files or folders will most times be recognized as still valuable I think.
